#2 Developer Thread » Configure qt.conf to make the messenger work in a different location » 2022-01-10 16:48:39

I´m trying to install the messenger in a different location than the /opt one in Debian, but I´m having some issues:

If I run:

sh -c "/home/nipegun/crp/messenger/utopia --url %u"

Results in this error:

qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, vnc, wayland-egl, wayland, webgl, xcb.

Aborted

So, I set the debug variable with:

export QT_DEBUG_PLUGINS=1

...and run again:

sh -c "/home/nipegun/crp/messenger/utopia --url %u"

..now I can see this output:

Got keys from plugin meta data ("xcb")
QFactoryLoader::QFactoryLoader() checking directory path "/home/nipegun/crp/messenger/platforms" ...
Cannot load library /home/nipegun/crp/messenger/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so: (/home/nipegun/crp/messenger/plugins/platforms/../../lib/libQt5XcbQpa.so.5:
undefined symbol:>QLibraryPrivate::loadPlugin failed on "/home/nipegun/crp/messenger/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so" :
"Cannot load library /home/nipegun/crp/messenger/plugins/platforms/libqx>qt.qpa.plugin:
Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, vnc, wayland-egl, wayland, webgl, xcb.

Aborted

From that I asume is messing with the location of the libqxcb library cause of "/../../".

So, if I now set the variable:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/home/nipegun/crp/messenger/lib"

The error is gone, but I mess with other configurations of my system.

How can I configure qt.conf to make the messenger work in that location?

This is important feedback, thank you. I will make sure the people behind the exchange receive your good suggestion. I'm sorry for your losses.

Yes. I will try to warn about this in my podcast. For sure it will help several people not to make the mistake I made.

If I can help only one person, it would be good enough.

It took me several months to get my first 200 CRPs. I then decided to trade them in the official exchange (crp.is) and I obtained 200 USDTs (more or less).
I then decided to withdraw those USDTs to a wallet changelly.com gave me to swap them for Digibytes (DGB).
I inserted the wallet address into the crp.is "wallet to withdraw" field and transaction was successful.
I'm very satisfied with the behavior of crp.is. Nice coded, fast, no crap info, just the useful thing for you to make fast transactions...

... Well, yes, but there's a thing:

It seems I made the transaction to an unsupported layer and I've lost all of my USDTs. This is the price I pay to learn there are different layers to make things in this world.

I wish crp.is warned me one or two times to check and re-check the wallet I sent the USDTs was in the same layer crp.is.
If crp.is were able to warn me one or two times, aggressively, about that before allows me to send the transaction, for sure I were paid more attention to the transaction.

Yes, I know: you can say I'm stupid. I am, in a way. In fact I now remember I read in some place of the crp.is web they were doing the exchanges in a specific "protocol". Now I learnt that protocol is indeed a layer and I need to operate in the tron one (TRC20), not in the omni one.

Cost of this course? All of my cryptons!!

So please, add an extra window to warn people to check and re-check this before allow them to withdraw the USDTs. You will make people a lot less sad.

A warning like this will be enough:

"Check the wallet you are sending the USDTs is operating in the tron network or you will lose all your coins. Irreversible . If you accept this conditions please select proceed"     (or something like that)

Hope this post can help somebody to learn what I learnt.
