The dismantling of a Brazilian cartel that was supplying Europe with cocaine was made possible by a global law enforcement operation assisted by Europol.
The members of this highly skilled criminal syndicate have been the target of several recent actions in Brazil, Spain, and Portugal.
Raids were carried out in coordination on May 4 in Portugal and Spain. 24 arrests were made as a result of 20 house searches that were conducted in Portugal (Cascais and Sintra) and Spain (Málaga, Cordoba, Madrid, Cantabria, and Vizcaya). Methamphetamine weighing more than 73 kilograms, 5 firearms, and more than EUR 116 000 in cash were all taken. Earlier in Spain, Portugal, and Brazil, seven additional gang members had been detained.
Following the discovery of 800 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside a container of frozen acai berries coming from Brazil in the port of Sines, Portugal, in June 2022, a number of arrests have been made.

Europol developed trustworthy information about international drug trafficking by a Brazilian organized crime network operating in several EU countries as part of ongoing intelligence activities with its operational counterparts.
The Brazilian criminal organization was in charge of preparing and shipping cocaine in sea containers destined for important European ports. It had direct contact with cocaine producers in Brazil and other South American source nations. Europol brought the detectives from both sides of the Atlantic together in August 2022, and they have been collaborating ever since to develop a shared plan to take down the entire network.
Since then, Europol has continuously developed and analyzed intelligence to support the field investigators. Two officers were stationed in Brazil on the day of the action to support the local authorities and ensure quick analysis of any new information gathered there.
